Antara Mukherji is an artist and an educator, based in Bangalore who joins Melting Lemon Drop as part of the Creative Collaborators team.
I enjoy working with different art mediums + materials and bring in a narrative inspired by personal experiences in my work. I believe that art has a universal language. It helps in connecting me to people from different age groups and different circumstances without prior knowledge or context.
Creative Collaborator Pursuits
Art can give voice to untold emotions and feelings and dwelling in the arts is a way to keep ourselves open to possibilities that life offers. We have worked with children, adolescents as well as adults keeping art and craft as a means to resolve emotions. I conducted ‘Art Solace’ an online workshop that created a safe space to express through art during covid times for people who were coping with their grief, fear and anxiety.
I have worked with elderly people (diagnosed with dementia) as part of a grant project from Burning man USA. The project allowed a community of caregivers and patients as well practitioners ( doctors, artists and so on) to creatively engage and create awareness about mental illness.
I have received two grants from IFA Bangalore under Art in Education. It’s a program that brings art education to government schools in Karnataka.
I worked on Repair as a theme for a year with Government school children in urban Bangalore. I also worked in a rural school in Uttara Karnataka where I brought in local storytellers (from the native tribes living in the forest) to children. This helped in retelling folklore that has been lost to English nursery rhymes.
Creative Collaborators-On Food and Health
‘I cook with love, some for the belly and some for the mind.’
Ayurveda spoke about food as the only way to good health. I am committed to a lifelong learning journey to uncover food as only one option for good health.
I feel just like how we cherish family albums and artifacts of our ancestors; we must be able to save and cherish good home cooked food as delightful hand me down recipes.
This is not just a source for good health but also a way to preserve what made us all alive and kicking. So, I collect recipes, stories and document them.
