During the holiday season, Barko relives memories of summers at their aunt’s house, where garlic potatoes became a beloved tradition. They broke this tradition to stay home, discovering old books and enjoying a nostalgic, enriching holiday. This time was filled with reading, cooking, family stories, and community service, making the holiday equally fulfilling.
Easy Quick Cooking Kerala Mango Prawn Curry Recipe
I am very fond of a popular festive Indian (Bengali) prawn curry dish called prawn malai curry. It uses prawns while the other recipe of Malabar Spinach Chorchori that I shared earlier may use shrimps. I was delighted when my friend Nithya invited me and Anju to her home for lunch. We got to taste her own version of authentic easy quick cooking Kerala mango prawn curry. It has a secret masala powder. More on that later. 🙂

PUFF PUFF: NIGERIAN STREET SNACKÂ
Barko shares memories of Nigerian puff puff, a beloved street food in West Africa. They recount their mother’s heartfelt dedication to her Sunday school class and an event hosted for Samaritan’s Purse, where they prepared puff puffs for the children. The puff puff experience symbolizes cultural connection, family bonds, and the essence of Nigerian life.
The author recounts their mother’s frequent travels, particularly a recent Christian pilgrimage to Israel. Despite her travels, she prefers homemade meals, so her family baked Banana Nut Bread for her trip. With their mother away during Christmas, the family faced a cooking mishap but enjoyed a memorable celebration with their grandma, cherishing old family recipes.

Sparkling Bengal Gram Salad & Wooden Console Table
Cleaning up is usually a pain if you don’t use mechanical devices. Sparkling Bengal Gram Salad is my go-to option for a clean table, plate, bowl or floorboard. At times.
One of the first few people I invited over for lunch at my apartment in Bengaluru was an old childhood friend Souvik and his artist wife Antara. I recalled meeting her earlier at an exhibition of her works. I bought one of her paintings (a cute illustration of 3 chickens) for my kitchen which is probably still somewhere in Singapore.
