Here’s a little toast to the year ahead with Melting Lemon Drop Drinks for a happier, healthier and well hydrated 2026 ahead.
It’s tricky weather in many places. We are opting for a basic mix which can be added to your own choice of other fruits, tea, alcohol, water or soda.
What’s the point of such a basic recipe?
If you have friends who surreptitiously throw drinks into plants- keep the base simple and easy to mix with other things.
The point is to give you a little something as what we call a simple “starter”.
Melting Lemon Drop Drinks Starters
If some of you are bakers or make yoghurt at home, you may be familiar with the concept of a starter. It’s a culture of viruses/bacteria actually. Does that sound familiar or scary?
Here’s the thing we do need bacteria. For decomposition or breaking down of various things in the gut for example. If it’s not human body- then we need the bacteria/viruses in the outside environment to help decay of natural organisms to nurture and feed mother earth.

Yawwwwwwn! Ok- we have quite a few readers dozing off now. So, let’s get some drinks on the table.
This melting lemon drop mix is a concentrate of fresh juices with a bit of salt and sugar. Simple enough.
Use your own choice of citruses here. I like most of them. And some are more easily available in your own backyard or local market. If you grew that tree and it gave you a first crop- wow!
I can imagine the thrill or pride you have in that produce.
Melting Lemon Drop Memory Jog
I tried to plant a Pomelo tree perhaps 6 years ago.
It was fancifully called “Happy Farm”.
Just a small patch of land by the side of the condo cark park which had a few herbs, lemons and flowering trees. There was a neighbor- a lady who was passionate about it, and she worked in the garden regularly and invited others to join.

I know that we all benefited from the chili plants, the kalamansi shrubs and the little greens grown in the patches there which was shared with everybody.
Another gentleman who helped her with the kitchen garden perhaps was the one who planted a few papaya trees around the condo.
I believe, there was a fallout with many other neighbors over some petty issues. I am not familiar with all the details of the building gossip.
In fact, I tried to stay away from that simply because, people get offended very easily if you don’t pick sides. Doesn’t help to pick sides unless you are being attacked yourself from all sides.
Melting Lemon Drop Drinks Break
As luck would have it, that did happen the very next year in 2022. Irrespective of that unpleasant memory, I take back a few learnings.
I’m looking fondly at the tiny little lemon tree planted in my balcony in a pot. Something tells me it will bear fruit. May not be today- maybe tomorrow. But hey, someone will enjoy it.

Early mornings are the best time to work on kitchen gardens and tending to plants or the earth. It helps to restore and rejuvenate most people.
I am not great at it, so I get help from others. Simply put, it’s a way to slow things down and ground you when life is spiraling out of control for many.
In fact, some others have the opposite problem- they are too grounded and refuse to budge. For them, bird watching is definitely recommended which enables a learning about how some of these creatures are very temporary in life. A rare sighting is a thrill.

If you don’t have lemons yet in your garden, it’s ok. Hunting around in the local shops for some of these along with kids is a fun activity in itself.
Going alone and breathing in the fresh morning air as you find your own discoveries is another way to enjoy a little opening up of the closed doors to a window of the outside world.

Here’s me going around picking up various produce from a local shop, from a little supermarket, from a street vendor selling in a cart (thela gadi) and an online store.
Amongst citruses- I got regular Indian lemons, imported bigger lemons, oranges and grapefruit. All are good sources of Vitamin C and powerful antioxidants.
Melting Lemon Drop Walks and Strolls
Sometimes it is very restorative if you can find a way to connect with nature in a manner that doesn’t require too much of interactions with others.
Highly recommended when you are exhausted interacting with many people who have taken a lot out of your life energies.

Recharge and then you may find yourself ready to have a few more drinks with others or get back to work. Someone is working behind the scenes for more goodies for you.
Pick your own pace- sometimes that maybe difficult when you have others with longer/shorter strides.
We are taking it all in slowly. Even the jibes from the various tribes. As long as we are not getting into a rush to find that limoncello or other gelato bribes. 🙂
Melting Lemon Drop Ice-cream detours

Some kids are too smart for their own good- lamented the older uncles and aunties. I heard, retained and passed it forward. Some of it I discarded- to help nurture mother earth.
Did you know bone ash is good for some plants? Or fish scales? How about bird droppings- No?
Ok- find out more. Half-forgotten memories lie buried under thicker tomes of fashion and designer magazines.
Finally, we get to the drinks instead of the pestering for ice-cream or mochi. 🙂

It’s a simple recipe- I’m sharing just one version of it using some leftover winter vegetables stock with beetroots, red carrots and beans which I had left over after making a salad. But you can use plain water or any other juice instead.
Go wild with your own creativity on this- have fun. I’m all for trying different things.
Footnote

To early Risers everywhere
The smell of old books & old sweaters
First early morning rain on dried parched land
The sticky sweet cotton candy tuft
Hard to wash off- stuck on your grimy wooly hair
My unborn, my stillborn, my uncried,
It wasn’t your fault, I tried
My tears were salty, your snotty face
Was never the fault- the cause was a loss
A deep sense of resignation- a half-hearted cheer
For taking a giant leap
That overcame the closed walls of fear.
